The Importance of Aircraft Technology

Civil Aviation sector has been growing immensely in the world and Turkey. In international aviation, the principle of flight safety is becoming increasingly important.
One of the conditions to become competitive in international market in today’s world is to head for developed technology and produce products with value added. Aeronautical sector which makes use of high-technology is among the most intensely used and value added sectors. Although America and Europe are the cradle of aeronautical industry, the expenses of labour is considerably high. When all of this is taken into account, our country maintains a very attractive country for foreign investors in terms of costs. When all of these are taken into account, our country keeps being a very attractive country for foreign investors in terms of costs. Aeronautical sector;
  • Shows a continuous and dynamic development.
  • The most important nurturing resource is the Research and Development Studies.
  • It provides employment and it needs simultaneously study of engineering in various fields.
  • Not only it looks for qualified labour force but also it possesses a structure which provides qualified labour force.

It also rapidly develops subsidiary industries and subsidiary sectors. Moreover, China, which is a cheap production center, preferred by many international companies from every sector, is one of the disadvantages in the aviation sector that there is no accredit for military projects. This is a great advantage for our country which is a member of NATO.

Especially in recent years, the initiation of growth of private airlines has also accelerated the growth of airports. For this reason, there has been a great increase in the need for qualified staff day by day in this field.

Our basic aim is to educate multidirectional, intermediate members who are able to make quick decisions, think conceptually, and at the same time good at operational level activities.

What does Aircraft Maintenance Technician Do?

An aircraft maintenance technician is responsible for maintenance, repair, installation, servicing of aircraft engines and other aircraft engines. He controls the engine of the aircraft, carries out repairs and maintenance, acts in accordance with the engineering economy, renders the defective parts for re-use or dismantles. He operates according to maintenance manuals such as AMM (Aircraft Maintains Manual) and TO (Technical Order) during maintenance and repair, follows the procedures step by step and carries out necessary tests.

An aircraft maintenance technician uses riveting machine, cutting tools, bending brake, guillotine bench, mechanic/electronic measuring instruments, motor test units (bremze), engine parts, various hand tools, consumables, toolkit, etc.

Candidates who want to be aircraft maintenance technicians should be willing to learn in the field of physics and mechanics, should be able to use their hands synchronously, should be responsible, careful, obey the rules, be suitable for teamwork, follow modern technology and aviation industry.

Aircraft maintenance technician working environment and conditions: they work at aircraft factories (TAİ, and THK Aircraft Factory…), aircraft repair and maintenance centers (THY, MNG, My Technic…). Working environment is usually greasy and noisy with fuel smell. But anyone who is interested in aviation does not mind this. Technician, engineer, and CS have to be careful all the time. They work with instruments and machines at all times.

The History of Aircraft Maintenance and Repair in Turkey

In 1912 There were two aircraft maintenance hangars in the first airport established by Mahmut Şevket Paşa between Yeşilköy and Sefaköy

In 1935, aircraft revision service was given which belongs to Türkkuşu established by Ankara Güvercinlik Airport

The Tayyare Factory, where maintenance and repair of engines belonging to different types of aircraft have been made since 1940, transformed into Kayseri Air Supply Maintenance Center in 1950.

The maintenance of DC-3 aircraft in 1945 was carried out at the aircraft and engine factories of the Turkish Air Force in Etimesgut, Ankara.

Yeşilköy International Airport, completed in 1953, also had maintenance hangars.

However, there is a growing need for an aircraft technician in our country each passing day. In the following years, they developed the country aircraft technician by opening the following maintenance centers:
